What is the function and principle of throttle?

The function of the throttle is to control the intake flow of the engine and the air entering the engine. It is a controllable valve that determines the working condition of the engine. After air enters the intake pipe, it is mixed with gasoline to form combustible mixture, which participates in combustion and does work. The driver controls the throttle opening by operating the accelerator pedal.

Throttle is generally divided into two categories, electromechanical throttle and electronic throttle. The electromechanical throttle valve is used to adjust the engine speed. The greater the throttle opening, the higher the engine speed (and the engine computer will feed back the driver's driving intention). There is also a bypass idle motor next to it, which is mainly used to adjust the engine load at idle speed and ensure the engine to work smoothly. The valve of electronic throttle is connected with potentiometer and valve motor, and its signal is connected with engine computer. The speed and power of engine are adjusted by using various working parameters of engine and gearbox to realize sensitive control of engine power.

Whether it is a carburetor car or an EFI car, the function of the throttle is the same, that is, to control and adjust the air intake of the engine. After air enters through the throttle, it is mixed with gasoline to form an oil-gas mixture. The fuel injection of carburetor model is to suck the gasoline in the carburetor through the negative pressure formed by the airflow in the intake pipe, and then mix it and enter the cylinder. This method is extensive and unevenly distributed, which affects emissions. On the other hand, the electronic signals provided by the air flow sensor and air pressure sensor near the throttle valve are used by the EFI vehicle, and the fuel injector in the intake manifold is controlled by the driving computer to inject fuel according to various parameters. Therefore, the intake of air determines the intake of air-fuel mixture. From this perspective, the opening of throttle valve also determines the intake of air-fuel mixture.
