When the distance of information transmission is longer, a more stable coding method is needed, and the more periodic waveform increases the requirements for stationarity and signal brightness. Using different waveform coding methods, different information can be transmitted. In Morse code, the difference between dot (-) and dash (-) is represented by the distance from point to point: dot is represented by a short distance, and dash is represented by a long distance. In radio communication, frequency modulation (FM) signals and pulse code modulation (PCM) signals use different coding methods to process analog signals and digital signals respectively.

Different waveform coding methods are needed for different application scenarios. For example, the transmission of audio and video data requires higher bandwidth and timing requirements. Therefore, the encoding method used in video data transmission is different from audio data transmission. In digital communication, the coding method used needs to have strong fault tolerance and discrimination performance, which can reduce the influence of signal interference and data loss.
