Shaoguan folkway

Shaoguan is a multi-ethnic area, most of which are Han people. In addition, there are more than 30 ethnic minorities such as Yao, Zhuang, Hui, Manchu, Mongolian, Miao, Bai, Dong and Tujia, so the dishes here have different flavors and learn from others. Nanxiong's preserved duck and Wengyuan's dried crucian carp are very famous. Tourists may want to taste them when they arrive.

Gui Long cold belly

Dragon returns to the cold stomach, the name is very common, but it is delicious. This dish was not included in the northern Guangdong spectrum before, but it has spread widely in recent years. As Shaoguan citizens, from officials to ordinary people, most of them have made a special trip to the countryside not too far away. Some of them try once and then come back every three to five times.

Stir-fried snails in Shankeng

You can't go to Shaoguan without eating fried snails. Because Shaoguan is a mountainous area with many hills and streams, snails like to grow in such a natural environment. Snails are small and long, conical, such as the size of a little finger. Snails are listed in Shaoguan counties (cities) in four seasons, and autumn wind is the best season for snails. Because the snail meat in Shankeng has a unique refreshing feeling and unique eating method, many people are willing to do so. Especially when having a party, meeting friends and having fun in a street shop after midnight snack, frying a snail in the pit to help Tan Xing is an ideal snack to taste Shaoguan flavor.

In addition to the general regular festivals, Shaoguan citizens also have unique ethnic festivals, because it is the main inhabited area of Guangdong ethnic minorities:

Long Drum Dance On festivals and festive days, when guests visit, the Yao people will dance long drums to welcome them. According to legend, a long time ago, Sister Sha, the daughter of King Pangu, married a young man on earth. A wicked man wants to kill young people and marry thirteen sisters. When King Pangu learned about it, he recalled Sister Sha to heaven. Sister Sha Shisan told her husband that as long as a piano tree is cut down on the South Mountain to make a long drum, and when Pangu Wang Po beats the drum 360 times on her birthday, she can be reunited with her in heaven. From then on, every time Pangu Wang Po was born, later generations would dance and cheer.

According to the custom of the Yao family, from the second day of February to the seventh day of July in the lunar calendar, you are not allowed to sing and love, otherwise you will be condemned by public opinion. On the seventh day of July, according to legend, it is the birthday of Pangu, the ancestor of Yao nationality. King Pangu created the world and created songs through labor, so Guo of Lianshan area in northern Guangdong designated this day as "Song Meeting".

The marriage custom of Yao nationality is very interesting, and it still retains the custom of "men marry women" and "children obey their mothers". On the wedding day, the groom went to the woman's house, and relatives and friends of both men and women attended the wedding.

Shaoguan is also rich in folk art, mainly including tea-picking opera, flower drum opera, lantern opera, folk songs, storytelling, Allegro, Cantonese opera and lion dance in northern Guangdong.
