What does MBR mean?

In the field of sewage treatment and water resources reuse, MBR, also known as membrane bioreactor, is a new water treatment technology combining activated sludge process and membrane separation technology. There are many kinds of membranes, which are classified according to the separation mechanism, including reaction membranes, ion exchange membranes and osmotic membranes. According to the nature of membrane, there are natural membrane and synthetic membrane, and according to the structural type of membrane, there are flat tubular spiral and hollow fiber type.

Compared with many traditional biological water treatment processes, MBR has the following main characteristics: high and stable effluent quality, small excess sludge output, small floor space, no limitation of installation occasions, removal of ammonia nitrogen and refractory organic matter, easy operation and management, automatic control and transformation from traditional processes.
