The structural characteristics of the taijutsu
Taijutsu is slightly different from other swords in the same category, one of the differences being the sheath, which is made of two metal rings (called "foot gold objects": the one near the mouth of the sheath is called the "first foot", and the other is called the "second foot") woven together with ribbons to make it easier to carry. The two metal rings on the sheath (called "ashigane": one near the mouth of the sheath is called the "one foot" and the other is called the "two feet") are woven into each other with ribbons to make them easy to carry. A small piece of metal (called a "Gexianjinji") is used to connect the ribbon to the footed objects. The head of the scabbard is wrapped in metal (called "Shihtoujinshi"). When the sword is drawn, it is necessary to press down on the strip of metal at the mouth of the sheath (called "koujin-object"). In the early days, the taijutsu was used as a cavalryman's sword, and it was basically held in one hand. The samurai of that period prided themselves on their strength, as evidenced by the common war style of "Ichibiki-jutsu" during the Northern and Southern Dynasties, which was characterized by the use of the taijutsu as a one-handed sword. The curved shape of the blade of the taijutsu, which was inherited from the curved shape of the earlier mawashi shaped taijutsu, made it possible to swing down and cut more effectively. The emergence of this type of sword led to a shift from foot to mounted combat.
