Tujia culture

Enshi has many colorful Tujia ethnic cultures, such as waving dance, Tujia folk songs, diaojiao building, Storm Bridge, Xilankapu and so on. Here is a brief introduction to one or two.

swing dance

Tujia folk dance has gained popularity, and students in many schools in Enshi can dance hand-waving. Our school can dance during morning exercises and recess exercises. There are many movements of waving dance: waving, sowing, transplanting rice, harvesting, picking grain, spinning, weaving, greeting the New Year, and grinding, among which waving dance is the most common movement. Waving is the first and last action. The left hand is in front and the right hand is waving at the back. After squatting and standing, open your hands forward. When you come back, put your feet together and squat down. When you get up again, take back your open hand, with your right hand in front and your left hand behind. This action looks simple, but it is still a bit difficult to do.

Enshi Tujia folk houses have Tujia diaojiao building, which has strong Tujia cultural connotation. There are three main rooms in the diaojiao building, the middle one is called "main room" and the left and right sides are called "radial rooms", which are used as bedrooms, fire pits or kitchens. There are wings at both ends of the main house, which are connected with the main house except one side leaning on the ground, and the other three sides are supported by pillars. People live above the diaojiao building, feed livestock below and pile up sundries. Diaojiaolou has many forms: single crane, double crane and four in one. Diaojiaolou generally has corridors, and most of their corridor patterns use "Wan Zi" and "Longevity Box" to symbolize good luck.

Tujia people also have many interesting national customs and cultures for foreigners to watch. If there is an opportunity, everyone can come and play!
