What are the characteristics of autism?
First of all, people with autism often have communication difficulties.
Secondly, people with autism may have social barriers.
Finally, people with autism will have rigid behaviors.
Let's start with communication skills. Many autistic children lack or even lose the ability of oral pronunciation, some can pronounce normally, but they can't organize complete sentences.
Some younger children often cry or scream instead of using words, because they can't express their emotions in words.
Older children may hold an adult's hand to express what they want, but their facial expressions are very cold, and they rarely express their wishes by nodding, shaking their heads or waving their hands.
Many autistic people lack social skills because they can't express their emotions.
In infancy, children will avoid eye contact with others, lack interest and response to people's voices, and are unwilling to get close to people.
Moreover, some elderly patients may lack understanding of social activities, ignore or feel the emotions of others, and especially cannot adjust their behavior according to social occasions.
Autistic people also have some rigid behaviors. Many patients are only interested in one or a few things. For example, some children may be particularly interested in round rotatable things such as bottle caps or wheels, and they can stare at them all day.
Many patients also behave in a rigid way. For example, they often do things or play with toys in the same way, require items to be placed in a fixed position, go out by the same route, and only eat the same food for a long time.
At this time, I can't help thinking of "Sheldon" in The Big Bang Theory. Knock on the door three times, which is a typical rigid behavior.
However, it should be noted that although most patients with autism have the above three characteristics, there are still a few patients whose performance of these characteristics is not obvious. Having these three characteristics does not mean that they must be autistic.
The best way to judge autism is to go to a mental health center or a regular general hospital and be diagnosed by a professional doctor.
