Huimen in Fuzhou Marriage Customs

Huimen in Fuzhou is a unique wedding custom in Fuzhou. The day after the bride married the groom, the bride's family went to the bride's house to express their thanks.

Door-to-door visits are usually made the morning after the wedding. On that day, the groom's family will prepare rich gifts, which will be led by elders or fathers to the bride's family. Before arriving at the bride's house, the groom needs to set off firecrackers and be received by the bride's house. The groom's family will enter the bride's house according to certain etiquette, usually paying homage to the ancestors first and then visiting the bride's bedroom.

When meeting the bride, the groom and the bride will offer tea to each other to show intimacy and respect. The groom's family will also send various gifts, such as tea, drinks, cakes and new clothes, to express their gratitude and concern.

After the visit, the bride will be escorted back to her husband's house by the groom's family and start a new life. The whole ceremony usually lasts one to two hours.
