Polymerization law of free radical copolymerization
1, free radical activity: the activity of free radicals is one of the main factors affecting the rate of free radical polymerization. Different free radicals have different activities, so in * * * polymerization, high-activity free radicals usually react with other monomers more easily than low-activity free radicals.
2. Monomer concentration: Monomer concentration is another major factor affecting the rate of free radical polymerization. When the monomer concentration is high, there are more opportunities for free radicals to react with other monomers, and the reaction rate will increase accordingly.
3. Temperature: Temperature also has an important influence on the rate of free radical polymerization. At high temperature, the activity of free radicals is usually enhanced, thus accelerating the reaction speed. However, too high temperature may reduce the stability of free radicals, thus reducing the reaction rate.
4. Initiator concentration: The initiator concentration also has a certain influence on the free radical polymerization rate. A proper amount of initiator can generate enough free radicals to promote the reaction. However, too high initiator concentration may lead to an increase in the competitive reaction between free radicals, but it will reduce the reaction rate.
5. Solvents and additives: Solvents and additives will also affect the reaction law of free radical polymerization. Some solvents may quench free radicals and slow down the reaction rate. However, some additives can change the activity of free radicals, thus affecting the reaction rate.
Polymerization method:
Free radical polymerization is the most widely used chemical reaction in polymer synthesis industry. Most vinyl monomers are polymerized or polymerized by free radicals, and the obtained polymers are all linear polymers compounds. Chain termination transfers the active species to another molecule, while the original active species itself terminates.
According to the physical state of the reaction system, there are five free radical polymerization methods: bulk polymerization, solution polymerization, suspension polymerization, emulsion polymerization and supercritical carbon dioxide polymerization. Their characteristics are different, and the shapes and uses of products are also different.
