Shanshui painting, referred to as "landscape", a kind of Chinese painting, depicting the natural scenery of mountains and rivers as the main body of the painting. Landscape painting occupies an important position in the history of Chinese painting, which can be divided into green landscape, ink landscape, light-red landscape, small green landscape and boneless landscape, etc. It is an extremely characteristic art in oriental painting. The representative painters are Zhan Ziqi, Wang Wei, Fan Kuan and Zhang Hong.
Landscape painting is one of the traditional classifications of Chinese painting, the early landscape is mainly the background of the figure painting, the Wei, Jin, North and South Dynasties period is gradually independent from the figure painting, the Sui and Tang dynasties to form a separate classification of Chinese painting, Wu Daozi, Li Si Xun, Wang Wei and others are good at painting landscapes. Since the Tang Dynasty, painters of landscape paintings have been divided into two schools, the South and the North. The founder of the North School was the Tang Dynasty painter Li Sixun, who made good use of colors and mainly painted landscapes along the Guanluo area on both sides of the Yellow River; Li Cheng, Fan Kuan, Zhang Zeduan, Li Tang, Ma Yuan and others belonged to the North School.
Wang Wei, the founder of the Southern School, made good use of ink and less of color. Mi Fu, Wang Ximeng, Zhao Boju and others belonged to the Southern School. Mi Fu and his son pioneered the Mi Dot Landscape, which expresses the state of Jiangnan's smoky lemon-taki, while Wang Ximeng and Zhao Boju were good at painting lime green landscapes. In the Song Dynasty, landscape paintings were very popular, from princes and nobles to literati and merchants, all of them were willing to decorate their halls with landscape paintings. In the Yuan Dynasty, landscape paintings emphasized the idea of writing, and the famous painters were Huang Gongwang, Wu Zhen, Ni Zan, and Wang Meng, known as the Yuan Four Families. Landscape painting continued to develop in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
