What does metaphysics mean?
Metaphysics, a category of primitive philosophy, refers to the speculation of the nature of the world when it cannot be proved by empirical evidence. [1] It was originally an ontological system to study "existence", and its theoretical principle was Plato's "duality of the world". Since 13 century, it has been used as a philosophical term to refer to the study of transcendental things (soul, freedom of will, etc.). ).
Before the development of modern science, scientific problems were studied as a part of philosophy, which was called natural philosophy.
The word "science" (scientia in Latin) originally meant only "knowledge". However, with the wide application of scientific methods, natural philosophy has gradually transformed into a reliable method system derived from experiments and mathematics, and parted ways with other fields of philosophy. By the end of the eighteenth century, it began to be called "science" to show its difference from philosophy.
