What are the ways Yi teenagers have chosen to pass on their local specialty folk songs? How should they be evaluated?

Six Yi teenagers have become popular on the Internet after forming the Light Gatherers Project choir to sing Yi folk songs. They let us hear the unique voices belonging to the Yi ethnic group and showed us the vitality that Yi songs possess.

Six teenagers from poor families in Meigu County, Liangshan Mountain, Sichuan Province, have given new life to Yi folk songs by adding new elements while keeping the original tunes intact. And they have already changed more than 100 folk songs passed down by word of mouth in a year. They said that they hope to sing Yi folk songs to more people, so that more people can feel the charm of Yi culture. I think they have really succeeded in their endeavor.

China has fifty-six ethnic groups, we often say fifty-six ethnic groups fifty-six flowers, each ethnic group has its own unique culture, unique charm thus composed of Chinese culture. But over the past few years there are many places blindly follow the hotspot, speculation, such as a place name, not to dig belonging to their own region's unique culture, but instead to fight for a name that has nothing to do with their own, some experts and scholars and even in the nonsense, falsehoods. I think these six teenagers have shown in action that what belongs to them is the best.

We have been emphasizing innovation, culture revitalization most need is innovation. Times are changing, and people's aesthetics and ways of accepting them are also being transformed. There are many songs that have disappeared silently not because they are not beautiful, but because they cannot be expressed in modern times, and they need to be combined with modern technology and modern features to break themselves down and recombine. The six Yi teenagers didn't change the original tune of the song, but just added many elements to the song that people like to listen to nowadays, so as to produce a chemical reaction and attract people's attention.

I guess it's just like the name the six teenagers gave to their group, The Light Chasers Project. Their popularity has allowed us to see the unique charm of minority cultures, as well as the light and hope for every culture struggling in the darkness and on the verge of disappearing.
