What is Chinese painting?
This is a general term for modern people's traditional painting in China, which distinguishes it from western painting. Chinese painting, referred to as "Chinese painting" for short, is painted on special Xuan paper or silk with brush, ink and Chinese painting pigments. The subject matter is mainly figures, landscapes and flowers and birds, and the techniques are divided into pen and freehand brushwork, which are full of traditional characteristics. Chinese painting can be divided into figure painting, landscape painting and flower-and-bird painting.
In ancient times, Chinese painting did not have a clear name, and it was generally called Danqing, which mainly refers to scroll painting painted on silk and paper and mounted. In modern times, Chinese painting is called to distinguish it from foreign paintings such as oil paintings (also known as western paintings) imported from the west.
