Pu Xian Opera originated in Putian, Fujian.

Pu Xian Opera is a kind of Chinese intangible cultural heritage with a long history, which was born in the Putian area of Fujian Province, and is one of the traditional opera genres in Fujian. Using Putian dialect as its main language and folk songs and rituals as its main content, Putian Opera shows the life and beliefs of the Putian people.

PuXian Opera was developed on the basis of the ancient "Hundred Operas". Putian Opera originated in Tang Dynasty, became in Song Dynasty, flourished in Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty, and flashed in modern times. It is popular in Putian and Xiangyou counties, which were called Xinghua in ancient times, as well as in Xinghua dialect areas in central and southern Fujian, and still retains a lot of musical elements of Song Dynasty and Yuan Dynasty operas, which is regarded as "the living fossil of Song Dynasty and Yuan Dynasty operas".

Putian Opera is a simple and elegant performance, with many movements influenced by puppetry and a unique artistic style; its singing is rich, synthesizing the artistic characteristics of Putian's folk ballads and slang, the ten tones and eight music, the Buddhist songs, the Song and Yuan lyrics, and the songs and dances of the big songs, and is sung in the dialect, with a strong local color.
