About the Author
Tao Yuanming (ca. 365-427) was a great poet of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. Also known as Qian, the word Yuanliang, private posthumous Jingjie, Xunyang Chaisang (now Jiangxi Jiujiang) people. He was born in the family of a broken bureaucrat and landlord. Educated by Confucianism from childhood, he was full of fantasies about life and hoped to realize his ambition of "helping the people" through his career. Since he was 29 years old, he had served as a priest in Jiangzhou, a military counselor in Zhenjun, and a magistrate in Pengze County, etc. He was dissatisfied with the landlord's control of the landowners. He was dissatisfied with the dark reality of the landlords holding power at that time, and when he was appointed as the magistrate of Pengze County, he resigned from his post and returned home after only 80 days because he was unwilling to "bend his back for five buckets of rice", and he made the "Ridiculous Rites of Returning to the Country" to make himself clear of his own ambition. From then on, he "ploughed and cultivated his own capital" until he died at the age of 63 in poverty and illness. He was good at poetry and songs, mostly describing natural scenery and his life in the countryside. Some of his best works implied his hatred of the corrupt ruling group and his unwillingness to be part of the same group, but there were also vain negative thoughts such as "the impermanence of life" and "being happy with the sky and the life". But there are also negative thoughts such as "life is impermanent" and "happy with life". The poems of another kind of theme, such as "Winging Jing Ke", express his political aspirations and are quite sad and generous. Tao Yuanming's prose is best known as "The Story of the Peach Blossom Garden". Tao Yuanming's poems and writings are both plain-spoken and crisp, and his language is simple, natural, and extremely refined. There is the Tao Yuanming Collection.

These two poems of Tao Yuanming were written in the fifth year of Yi Xi (409 AD). In the fourth year of YiXi, Tao YuanMing's residence in ShangJing caught fire, and Tao YuanMing had to live on a boat; more than a year later, he moved to NanCun village outside XunYang, and wrote these two poems. He used the joy of moving to express his simple ideal of life.
The first poem mainly expresses the joy of talking with friends. First of all, Tao Yuanming wrote the reason for moving: not for superstitious reasons, in order to pick the feng shui, but because there are a lot of simple-minded friends, and I am very happy to spend time with them. Moreover, the move was not an impulsive one, but one that had been planned for a long time, as can be seen from the words "I have been thinking of this place for quite a few years". The second half of the poem is a realistic description of life after the move, focusing on the material and spiritual aspects. As a hermit, Tao Yuanming's material conditions are not good, his description of his new home is "to take the foot of the bed and mat", simple and extreme; but at the same time, his spiritual life is very rich, "strange text *** appreciate, doubt and analyze each other," for a man of letters, to be able to do so, why not? For a man of letters, to be able to do so, what more could one ask for? Here, it is not difficult to see the poet's open-mindedness, not to say high and high character, not to say Yat and the spirit of Yat.
The second poem describes more about the joy of being with people. Tao Yuanming describes for us his idle life: climbing high, writing poems, drinking wine. What we see between the lines of the author is more of a hermit's eloquence, describing to us his life of seclusion, the life in the countryside as he sees it, without a trace of the arrogance that characterizes the scholarly man. "Clothes and food when you have to own, plowing is not deceived me" is Tao Yuanming told us "do it yourself, rich in clothes and food" this simple and simple truth, which should also be in his own life in the realization of.
From the above two poems, it is easy to see that the main feature of Tao Yuanming's poetry is that it is light and thick. From the text of Tao Yuanming's poetry, it seems that there is no accumulation of gorgeous words, compared to the later generation of the Tengwangge Preface and other parallelism masterpieces, it is not comparable. But Tao Yuanming is in these simple words, for us to depict his ideal of life, his sense of life. To "move" one of the example, Tao Yuanming just described his move to the south of the village and his neighbors get along with the usual but the scene, but which flows is the bubbling true feelings. The feeling one gets from reading it is light but not withered, qualitative but really beautiful. Light, quality, is his words fresh, simple, as if the mountains and fields of the breeze; not withered, Qi, is the Tao Yuanming poems out of the emotion, stripped of the world of the envelope, only the true nature of the only. Poetry theorists through the ages have argued that there are two basic conditions for reading Tao's poems: one is to have a certain flavor of life and life experience. Huang Tingjian "trekking yuenming poetry volume" said: "blood fresh when reading this poem, such as chewing dead wood. When I read this poem when I was young and vigorous, it was like chewing on dead wood. When I experienced the world, I realized that there was no use of wisdom. Qing Wu Hanfen "reading fun" wrote: "Tao Yuanming poetry light and taste shy, and pure gas, leisurely flow, the most playful. ...... people read at first, do not feel its strange, gradually chanting is taste gradually out." It can be seen, Tao Yuanming's poem is simple and light, but the three flavors are really worth a careful taste.
Another example is Tao Yuanming's other idyllic poems, such as "ambiguous far away people's villages, depending on the smoke of the marketplace", "the dog barks in the deep alleys, the chickens are singing mulberry tree upside down", "square house more than ten acres, grass house seven or eight rooms ", "picking chrysanthemums under the East Fence, leisurely see the South Mountain", etc., depicting the most real, the most simple color of life, without a trace of carving, as later described by Li Bai, "water out of the hibiscus, natural decoration.
Jian'an literature brings us pathos and desolation, that is in the era of war under the helpless; Western Jin literati contributed to the beauty of the beautiful. Tao Yuanming, on the other hand, with his own strength, has created a new literary world for us with the beauty of natural simplicity. As Zong Baihua said, "The Wei, Jin, and Six Dynasties were the key to a transformation,...... From this time onward, the Chinese sense of beauty went in a new direction, manifesting a new ideal of beauty. That is, it is considered that 'the first hair of hibiscus' is a higher realm of beauty than 'wrong color skeletonization'."
For the development of poetry in the later generations, especially the prosperity of Tang poetry in the later history of Chinese literature, Tao Yuanming is also credited with playing an important role in the development of later generations of poetry, especially the idyllic poetry school. During the Wei, Jin, and North-South Dynasties, there were very few idyllic poets, and only a few of them, such as Ruan Ji and Xie Lingyun, were comparable to Tao Yuanming. In the Tang Dynasty, the real sense of the birth of Meng Haoran, Wang Wei as the representative of the landscape idyllic poetry school, they inherited the Tao Yuanming's simple and light poetic style, became a unique landscape in the Tang poetry, and their poems of peeling off the prosperity of the source of the true, back to nature, and the style of Tao's poems in the same lineage. At the same time, for other poets, Tao Yuanming's idyllic poetry also had a certain influence. Li Bai once said, "when to Pengze, crazy song before the Tao Lin" (Li Bai "send Wei Nanling Bing, Yu River on the Xing visit to meet the search Yan Shangshu laugh with this gift"), Bai Juyi is: "often love Tao Pengze, Wenshi He Gaoxuan" (Bai Juyi, "title Xunyang building").
