Cow Soul Festival is a traditional festival of which ethnic group it comes from
The Ox Soul Festival, also known as the festival of the yoke, is held on the eighth day of the fourth month of the lunar calendar, and is popular in the Zhuang villages around Longsheng in northern Gui. The Zhuang tradition of honoring and loving cows is even more evident in the annual Ox Soul Festival.
The Zhuang believe that the eighth day of the fourth month is the birthday of the King of Cows. Once the Ox Soul Festival arrives, people let go of the plow, oxen take off the yoke, and the host family has to feed the oxen with new home-brewed sweet wine and five-colored glutinous rice dyed with plant juices. On this day, the pens of the oxen are cleaned and the oxen are washed; drums are also played to cheer the oxen as they bathe. Of course, Luo, one should never hit the cows on this day; if one does, it will frighten the cow's soul away, which is very unfavorable to farming.
At midday, every family will hold a ceremony to honor the cow. At this time, the whole family sits at a table full of wine, and the parents lead the ox around the table for a week, while singing a song to honor the ox and feeding the ox five-color rice. Finally, the whole family stood up and stroked the back of the cow to show their blessings to the cow.
