Does the traditional dial-up Internet access occupy the voice channel of the telephone?

The bandwidth of ordinary telephone lines is 30~3400hz. According to Shannon theory and current technology, the achievable channel capacity is 56kbps, which is the limit of traditional modems.

If it is an ADSL cat, the bandwidth will increase, and the voice channel will not be occupied, and the uplink and downlink are asymmetric, and the maximum downlink should reach 8Mbps (please check the latest information, I may not be accurate. )
