Brief introduction of Monroe Buddhist temple
Monroe Buddhist Temple was restored and rebuilt on the original site of the ancient royal temple "Jingpiao Buddhist Temple", which was built by King A Dai named Bolong in Dai history to commemorate the death of Wang Feinan. Mengling Buddha Temple was destroyed in the war in 2883 (namely 1848, Xianfeng period of Qing Dynasty), and it has been 169 years since now.
In 2005, the reconstruction of Mengling Buddha Temple began. On March 9th of the same year, a large-scale groundbreaking ceremony was held, and on May 9th, 2005, a grand foundation laying ceremony was held for the main hall. In the process of building the Hall of the Great Hero, a large number of silver coins, silver boxes and Buddhist sacrificial supplies were unearthed.
The Mengling Buddhist Temple, covering an area of 400 mu, is built on the mountain with a drop of 122.8 meters, which is unique at home and abroad. With the life and activities of Buddha Sakyamuni as the background, Buddhist temples are skillfully integrated into the landscape and architectural groups, fully demonstrating the historical and traditional cultural colors of Southern Buddhism.
architectural style
The Dai Buddhist temple in Xishuangbanna is mainly built with double eaves and sloping flat tiles. Buddhist temples are mostly square, facing east from east to west, and the roof slope consists of three floors. The nave is high, and the east and west sides are staggered in descending order. The roof adopts rectangular tiles, and the tail of the tiles is hooked on the flat bamboo rafters.
The ridge between the main ridge of the roof and the eaves is smoothed with lime and decorated with various tiles. The tiles on the main ridge are flame-shaped, and most of the first ends of the ridge have the image of a phoenix, which is unique. Each Buddhist temple consists of three parts: the Buddha's seat, the monk's seat and the platform.
Most of the statues of Sakyamuni in Mengling Buddha Temple are sitting statues, and the ears of Buddha statues are very strange, big and wide, with different shapes. The slim figure, exquisite facial features and hands on knees reveal a mysterious atmosphere, which makes people curious about the history of the Dai people.
The entrance pavilion next to or near the Buddhist temple to enter the stupa is also unique. On one side of a double-eave herringbone roof, a roof is built at right angles and connected together to form a door pavilion. There are only pillars under the eaves, but no walls, extending in all directions for people to enter and leave. Although it is a replicated building, it shows the special architectural style of the Dai people because of its ingenious layout.
