In Xishuangbanna, China, the traditional residents are double-decker bamboo houses or wooden houses. Why?

The bamboo house in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province is a traditional residence of the Dai people. This "dry fence" building was originally made of bamboo as the main material, with bamboo columns, beams, purlins, rafters, doors and walls. In some places, bamboo is even broken in half to make tile roofs. Because it is mainly covered with bamboo, there are high railings, which are divided into upper and lower floors, so it is called bamboo building. People live upstairs, pile things downstairs, and close livestock and poultry.
