The method of growing vegetables at home
The method of family growing vegetables, with the development of urban family green agriculture movement, many urban families have a strong interest in balcony growing vegetables. But many people have no experience in growing vegetables. Here are some ways for experienced families to grow vegetables.
The method of growing vegetables at home 1 conventional soil cultivation is the mainstream method adopted in the balcony vegetable growing movement in China at present. Fill all kinds of dilapidated or abandoned containers at home with soil and grow vegetables in them. This method is the most traditional and mature, with no technical difficulty.
For some metropolises, this method may be difficult to achieve in environmental protection, because many families grow their own vegetables in order to grow green, safe and pollution-free organic vegetables. For families in metropolises, all they can see are reinforced concrete forests, and the soil that can be found nearby is polluted, so it is difficult to obtain safe and harmless planting soil. This led some families to give up the idea or action of balcony vegetable garden.
This method has some disadvantages. First, the balconies of many families can't shelter from the rain. In order to prevent vegetables from drowning due to rain or excessive watering, it is necessary to eliminate the water holes at the bottom of the container, which often leak mud and make the balcony dirty; Another problem is that they must be watered regularly. Once left unattended at home for a long time, these vegetables are likely to die of drought.
In order to eliminate the worries of families about soil safety, solve the disadvantages of planting vegetables with soil on the balcony and promote the development of urban green family agriculture, all parties in the family agricultural industry chain have been actively promoting soilless culture in recent years.
Buy or make containers such as pots, pans and pots special for soilless culture, and then buy special nutrient solution for soilless culture, or prepare nutrient solution yourself, fill the tank with substrate for fixing roots (substrate is not needed for soilless culture), and pour the nutrient solution into the tank for planting.
More and more families are using soilless culture to grow vegetables on balconies. Soilless culture requires certain skills and techniques. Many families often encounter the situation that vegetables rot and die, such as lettuce. Without care and patience, it is difficult to grow better than soil culture.
Because of the nutrient solution used in soilless culture, no one is at home for a long time, so there is no need to worry about being killed by drought. However, no one can take care of it for a long time, especially when the evaporation of vegetables is large in summer, otherwise the vegetables are likely to be malnourished because of the depletion of nutrients in the culture tank, and they are likely to die of lack of water. In addition, for most families, soilless culture has high cost and low cost performance.
Most vegetables can't grow on the water surface, but aquatic vegetables such as watercress, water spinach and water dropwort can grow on the water surface, and can be cultivated without substrate and soil, that is, floating hydroponics.
Fill the tank with nutrient solution, then put a porous floating material on the water surface (a small container can directly put vegetables into a container without floating material), and cut vegetable seedlings such as water spinach into the holes of the floating material. Vegetables such as water spinach have roots and are resistant to flooding, so that the vegetables planted are more brittle and tender. This hydroponic method also has the limitations of nutrient solution culture.
For aquatic vegetables, the method of mixed culture of mud and water can also be used. Put fertile soil into a container, add water less than 3 to 5 cm deep into the soil, fully soak it, stir it into mud, then let it stand for clarification, and then cut aquatic vegetables such as watercress into mud, with two or three buds at the top exposed from the water.
This method of planting aquatic vegetables can not only prevent water shortage, but also prevent nutritional deficiency when left unattended for a long time, which can save a lot of worries for families who travel frequently.
For lazy people, there is also a mixed method that can be lazy and grow fresh vegetables, that is, soilless culture and soil culture mixed cultivation method, which is my own lazy method and has been verified by myself to be very effective.
Fill a container with cobblestones and other substrates for soilless culture, then fill the container with nutrient solution, the liquid level is about 1 cm lower than the substrate plane, and then stack the containers with soil to cultivate vegetables in the upper container, so that the soil leaked from the drainage hole of the vegetable container will not pollute the balcony, and the roots of the vegetables can also grow into the bottom container through the drainage hole, which can absorb the water and nutrients in the two containers, and can avoid simple soilless culture without watering and fertilization for a long time.
Method 2 of growing vegetables at home First, if we choose to grow vegetables, we need you to have some seeds, otherwise we can't grow them. The easiest way to choose seeds is to buy some seeds in the market. There are many kinds of seeds now, most of which are cultivated varieties suitable for family planting.
Second, if you don't want to go to the market to buy your own seeds, you can also choose from the vegetables you buy at home. For example, we can plant pepper seeds of red peppers or pumpkin seeds, all of which are ok, and so can garlic seedlings, depending on your own preferences.
Thirdly, if you want to grow vegetables in winter, you can choose some vegetables with short growth period to grow indoors. I like to grow sprouts because the planting time is short. Rape and spinach can be considered, which are basically suitable for family planting in winter.
Fourth, some bigger vegetables can also be planted in spring and autumn. Although these vegetables take a long time, they bring us more happiness. I suggest you plant pumpkins and loofahs, both climbing plants. They can be planted in large flowerpots and climbed to the window guardrail.
Fifth, planting these vegetables requires certain fertilizers. I usually use waste products myself. I like to ferment the rice washing water left over from my cooking, or the beer left over from my friends and the soybean milk left over from breakfast as fertilizer, which is both environmentally friendly and convenient.
Sixth, don't grow too many vegetables at home, because we don't have special soil for growing vegetables. At the same time, I need to tell you that when growing vegetables at home, you must choose a place with good light so that vegetables can grow better.

Seed selection.
Leek has strong adaptability, and all varieties can be potted, but it is best to choose varieties with good appearance and internal quality. Sowing can be used to raise seedlings, and leek roots can also be planted directly.
Containers and soil.
Pottery basin, ceramic basin, plastic basin, etc. It can be used, and it should have a chassis to prevent excess water from seeping out. Because the root system is developed, the cultivated soil must be fertile enough to maintain the sustainable growth and harvest of leeks.
Seedling management.
In the early stage, the main roots are long, and watering should not be too frequent, but the soil should be kept moist; Weeds, if any, should be removed in time; If there are bad symptoms such as yellowing of leaves, appropriate topdressing, generally topdressing 1 ~ 2 times of available nitrogen fertilizer is enough. If you want to cultivate vegetable roots, you don't have to harvest them in the same year.
Daily management.
Water a little more frequently to keep the soil moist; When the soil hardens, loosen it with a shovel to keep moisture.
Harvest.
In the first year, the focus is on raising roots, which is not suitable for harvesting, but it can also be harvested properly when it is growing vigorously. Leek is a perennial plant, which can be harvested 5~6 times a year after its growth is stable. Changing the soil every two years should be done during the winter dormancy period.
