Why does the New Culture Movement absolutely affirm or deny the eastern and western cultures?

The New Culture Movement resolutely criticized Confucius and Mencius' thoughts and praised western culture. They think that the way of Confucius and Mencius is a supporter of feudalism, which hinders the development of China and is an absolute denial of the traditional culture of China.
