What kind of rearing methods are mainly adopted for egg ducks and meat breeders in the breeding period?

(1) Grazing rearing The grazing rearing of breeding ducks is the traditional way of rearing in China, mainly in flat land, mountain, wetland, shallow water, deep water and other traditional water grazing rearing. The water grazing method often causes duck feces to pollute the water source of rivers and lakes, and may also cause infectious diseases (including highly pathogenic avian influenza) to spread with the water flow, seriously jeopardizing the safety of the natural environment. If young ducks in the breeding period graze in polluted waters, the grazing environment will cause serious harm to the health of ducks and may cause problems with the safety of duck eggs. Because this kind of water grazing or water surface captive rearing method cannot realize the control of duck feeding, drinking and environmental quality, there is a serious biosecurity hidden danger. The grazing rearing method is not suitable for large-scale production. This feeding method is becoming less and less common.

(2) Shelter feeding mode Shelter feeding mode refers to the breeding ducks in the whole rearing process, is restricted to the fully enclosed or open duck house. The ground in the duck house or the use of bedding grass (material) or a combination of ground and net bed, duck feeding, drinking, exercise, rest in the duck house. Therefore, the feeding management is more strict than the grazing feeding method. Drinking water and drainage system must be set up in the house. If bedding is used for rearing, the bedding should be thick and kept dry. In areas with high water table, thick bedding is not suitable, and mesh flooring or slit flooring can be used for feeding. The leaky floor should be more than 600 millimeters higher than the normal ground. The floor in the duck house should be paved with cement and have a certain slope to facilitate the removal of feces.

The advantage of full-house feeding is that the feeding environment can be artificially controlled, which is conducive to scientific duck rearing and achieves the purpose of stable and high production. Due to centralized feeding, it is easy to transition to intensive production and can effectively improve labor efficiency. However, the cost of rearing is relatively high.

(3) Semi-housed feeding Semi-housed feeding is the main feeding method of duck breeding in China. The ducks are kept in the duck house, land sports ground and water sports ground, and do not go out to graze. Ducks feeding, drinking can be placed in the house, can also be placed outside the house, feeding management is not as strict as the whole house feeding. Its advantages are the same as those of full-housed feeding, which is convenient for scientific feeding. As the climatic conditions keep changing with the seasonal changes, the feeding management of ducks should be adjusted with the environmental changes. In summer, attention should be paid to prevent heat, and in winter, attention should be paid to prevent cold.
