Famous people in communication science and their main ideas

Four Founders + One Founder Lasswell

American political scientist who published Propaganda Techniques in the World War in 1926, and whose contribution to communication studies centered on the analysis of propaganda and the study of the communication process. It is the first American systematic study of political communication, is the authority on propaganda, defines propaganda, and further develops the basic methods of analyzing propaganda. 1948 "The Structure and Function of Communication in Society" is a more comprehensive discussion of the communication process, structure and function, and explicitly puts forward the process of communication and the five elements (the classic model of the 5W), which lays down the basic scope of the study of communication science and the level of the study of communication.

Lewin

American social psychologist who first put forward the "field theory" and "group dynamics theory" in social psychology. A group is a field, the group is a whole rather than a simple sum of individuals, the group plays a decisive role in the relationship between the group and individuals. The norms of the group directly regulate and influence individual behavior. To change a person's attitudes, perceptions, and ideas through communication, the communicator must consider not only its individual factors, but also the factors of the group to which it belongs. He contributed to the establishment of communication in the United States and provided a new dimension to the study of communication.

Lazarsfeld

American applied sociologist. Advocated the examination of communication media in a complete social environment, and extended the study of the social impact of communication media to the political life of the United States, the representative work of The People's Choice. He proposed the concept of "opinion leader" and the two-level communication theory, and believed that the role of communication media is indirect and limited, ending the "gunshot theory" and entering the "limited effect theory", which enables researchers to y understand the many different aspects of communication. The researchers have gained a deeper understanding of the many factors in the communication chain, which has boosted the study of communication.

Hoffland

American experimental psychologist, who presided over the military's research, mainly used experimental methods to study the relationship between human attitudes and persuasion. Its findings are considered to be the source of several major contributions to mass communication theory, represented by Communication and Persuasion. His research did not involve the media movement and mass communication in the real social movement, using the experimental method of research, the scope of the research object is limited, so there are limitations.

Wilbur. Schramm

The first communication scholar, the father of communication. His greatest achievement is that he synthesized the research results of his predecessors and multiple disciplines, and eventually founded communication science (the publication of Mass Communication); he continued to write books and promote the development of communication science, mainly "the process and effect of mass communication", "the new media", "handbook of communication science, etc.; he vigorously promoted the education of communication science, and expanded the influence of communication science in the field of education and academia. He has founded four research institutes, trained a large number of well-known scholars, and formed the Schramm School. He has also traveled the world to promote American communication studies
