Beijing Institute of Fashion was founded in February 1959, formerly known as Beijing Textile Institute of Technology, renamed Beijing Chemical Fiber Institute of Technology in July 1961, is built by the former Ministry of Textile Industry, focusing on higher education in chemical fibers, key institutions.In February 1987, it was rebuilt and expanded into Beijing Institute of Fashion, China's first public apparel colleges and universities.

There are nearly 300 off-campus talent training bases at national and Beijing levels. The National Costume Museum, one of the "top ten" museums in China, has a collection of more than 10,000 pieces of costumes, ornaments, fabrics, batiks and embroideries of various ethnic groups in China, which combines the functions of collecting, displaying, scientific researching, teaching and so on.

In recent years, the one-time employment rate of graduates of Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology has remained above 95%. By education, undergraduates and graduate students are employed in private enterprises, accounting for 85.20% and 77.01% respectively; graduate students, relative to undergraduates, a higher proportion of employment in institutions, accounting for 14.96%. Mainly concentrated in the textile and garment industry, cultural and creative industries and education, the proportion of 66.33%.
