Tattoo pigment basic composition

We can simply tattoo pigment is divided into color base and auxiliary two parts, color base refers to the role of color pigments, dyes and other organic or inorganic substances; auxiliary fingerprints in addition to the color base in the pigment materials, such as water, alcohol, glycerin, resin and other substances to play a role in dispersing, wetting, disinfection, emulsification and so on.

Color base

Many famous color pigments boast that they use natural plant pigments/dyes, but nowadays economic society, it is very easy and cheap to get chemical pigments/dyes, but it is very difficult and costly to get a full set of natural plant pigments. Therefore, the raw materials for the color base of general tattoo colors come from inorganic pigments/dyes and organic pigments/dyes. Both natural plant-based pigments and chemically synthesized inorganic or organic pigments contain certain harmful ingredients.

Inorganic pigments include a number of natural products, some derived entirely from mineral resources, as well as synthetically produced ones in which metals are part of the molecule.

Organic pigments include a small portion of natural substances, such as vegetable dyes, but most organic pigments are synthetic. Their chemical composition is more complex.

It is generally accepted that inorganic pigments/dyes have more harmful components than organic ones, and are relatively inexpensive. For example, brown color: inorganic brown color is only a few dollars per kilogram; and organic brown pigment, there is no domestic manufacturers have the level of production

Even for organic pigments, different colors, or even different specifications of the same color, due to the production process is not the same, the toxicity is not the same. And the same specifications of the pigment, the size of the manufacturer, the strength of the equipment there are differences in the harmful components of the product (heavy metals, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, etc.) of the content is also not the same.

From this point of view, you should choose the products of manufacturers with good quality control. The difference in pigments/dyes from batch to batch is smaller for famous foreign brands. Of course the price is also very expensive.

Domestic manufacturers generally emphasize the safety of their pigments/dyes and even issue heavy metal test reports. However, heavy metal is only a small part of the harmful ingredients, there are many other harmful ingredients (such as formaldehyde, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, aromatic amines, etc.), and the test report issued is only for a certain batch of test, which doesn't mean that all the batches are good. Foreign well-known color manufacturers, generally will provide MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) that is "chemical safety instructions", which will be more detailed description of the safety of the ingredients contained.

The carcinogenicity of organic pigments/dyes has always been an issue of different views in the international arena. In 1994, Germany firstly issued a banned list of pigments/dyes, which was later used as a reference by other countries in the world.

Auxiliaries

Auxiliaries can be a single ingredient such as water or a chemical compound. In summary, the commonly used chemical compounds are as follows:

Ethanol, purified water, witch hazel tincture, Lister's antiseptic, propylene glycol, glycerol, various surfactants and detergents, and so on
