Introduction to Japanese Dance
During the period from Nara to Heian, Kabuki] music (imported by the Baekje people, Mimoyuki, from the Wu-Yue area of China), Yaku (Yan music of the Tang Dynasty), and Sangaku (Chinese folk songs, dances, acrobatics, illusions, and a hundred operas) were imported from foreign countries, which led to a great progress in the art of Japanese dance.
Medieval Noh music was also influenced by Chinese Nuo dance and puppet theater. The emergence and development of Kabuki in the Edo period created a new dimension of Japanese dance, with many monumental masterpieces and famous actors.
