Omed Omedan, a traditional kissing festival, is celebrated in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia, March 29, 2017, local time.
The annual "Kissing Festival" has arrived in Bali. On this day, thousands of locals gather in a small Balinese village to celebrate the kissing ceremony. Couples gather to kiss each other while bystanders pour water on the kissing youth. The locals believe kissing is good for health and avoids bad luck.
Local residents say the kissing ceremony is more than 100 years old. More than 100 years ago, young people in the village marked the day as the first day of the New Year.
Bali is located in a relatively conservative country, Indonesia. Sometimes, participants can become too passionate and uncontrolled. As a precaution, the village priest will then throw a bucket of water in his hands at them to curb the excessive lust of the couples.
