The "Multi-Professionals" Around Me

I forget what day it was that the concept of "multi-professionals" suddenly hit the screen.

Multi-professionals are people who work in multiple occupations and have multiple identities at the same time. Their self-introductions often use "Slash" to distinguish between different jobs, e.g., Guo Jingming: writer/director/publisher. Later, people would also use "slash youth" as a synonym for multi-professionals.

For example, we find that more and more people around us have different identities and labels on Zhihu and Weibo. Usually, we like to put a label with another distinctive feature outside of our profession, so that we look cooler and make friends with like-minded people based on our interests and areas of expertise. However, nowadays, a lot of people even quit their jobs to become "slashers".

It just so happens that I'm surrounded by a lot of them.

I've chosen a few full-time "slashers" - that is, people who quit their stable jobs, don't work, don't have bosses, and specialize in earning money to support their families through multiple careers. It seems that the small life is quite moist, so I talked to them to satisfy my curiosity about them.

Today, this one is a very good at integrating resources and "pimping" the budding man. He resigned from a stable Internet marketing position to do social media marketing, co-branding projects, working for himself.

丨How did you come up with the idea of quitting your job to become a multi-professional?

It wasn't because I wanted to be a multi-professional that I became a multi-professional, but rather, I did a lot of interesting work myself, and it just so happened that people were discussing the topic of multi-professionals. In the beginning it was because of discussing various topics with friends, people wanted to do all kinds of things, maybe it inspires their own creative desire, maybe it's a fun but useless thing, maybe it's a trip, and I found that everyone's unifying reason was but I don't have the time, I'm too busy at work, as if work has become an obstacle for everyone to live a good life, but isn't that what we work for, to live a better life? If there is a way to make money and do what you love, how great would that be, (omit 10,000 words here), and then I found this way.

🙂 How has the mindset changed since working for yourself all by yourself, versus being a commuter before?

Freelancing is also a career, so I still consider myself a commuter, but there are a lot of changes from before, such as a stronger sense of working for myself, being more purposeful and efficient in my work, and organizing my time more efficiently and rationally because of the greater variety of work. I can jump out from a certain stage to do more in-depth reflection on my past experiences, so I can think more comprehensively about some issues. Once when I was a working person, I could stay up all night and work overtime for something, but now I am more concerned about my health and improve my work efficiency.

丨In the project-based work environment, everyone is full-time or part-time? What kind of work pattern?

We all work together for a period of time, and then when it's time to execute, everyone is responsible for their own part of the job, and they don't need to sit on the bench or anything like that.

ÔÇ£Tell me about your day-to-day schedule.ÔÇØ

In fact, my schedule is not that organized. I work more efficiently at night, so I would schedule my work at night.

But things like meeting clients still need to fit into everyone's daily work schedule, so I'll take care of all the work I have to do with people during the day, such as talking about cooperation, meeting clients, team communication, etc. If I don't see any clients, the time belongs to me, so I can meet some friends, chat with some people (which could be a possible material for an article hehehe), go to the movies, travel, watch an exhibition, play sports, go shopping and sleep_(:з」∠)_

= Han Xiaoxian's office standard =

In the evening time will start to work in full force, before moving, I like to turn off the bedroom lights, only open the floor lamp in the room, and then turn on the music, so that the dark light and the sound of the whole room filled with (won't disturb the people lah), so that I can let myself be more can be immersed in the mood of their own creation, you can be more This allows you to be more immersed in the mood you're creating and produce content more efficiently. When I'm not busy with work, I might cook for myself or something, but lately I've been really busy =.

ÔÇ£What if I'm lazy when I'm working from home?

But I'm already lazy, so I shouldn't be any lazier!

My friend said that other companies are technology-driven, design-driven company, more maverick may be PPT-driven, layoff-driven, and I am credit card-driven haha, every day to see the number of days from the repayment date, but also all of a sudden on the diligence of the ToT

丨Daytime time really belong to themselves? For example, a said to go to an appointment, a said to see a movie?

Do you think I'm in a TV show? Dreams are beautiful, the reality is that not only the day time does not belong to themselves, the night also does not belong, and so became every day open your eyes in the work of the teenagers, although you can not often say go to an appointment, say see a movie, but the mask can say to apply it!

丨Has it ever occurred to you that if the team grows, it will develop into a company? Or, in fact, the essence of the matter is that freelancing is just a transitional stage of your business?

No, I know what I should do, the team grows, the development of the company is actually in the eyes of others "successful state", but I know I'm not suitable for the management of a company, the freedom, happiness and sense of existence between always have to find a balance. What is the future I do not know, maybe 5 years after 10 years I can turn back to find out if freelancing is my transition stage.

丨Can you show me a picture of your desk?

Han Xiao Xian's desk

I actually work from my bed most of the time...

🙂 So have you gained weight?

No

🙂 Why?

Because there is time to do KEEP...

🙂 So do you go to a coffee shop or something like that to work?

Yes, because it's depressing to not see humans for a long time...

Xiao Xian is my junior in college, as early as not yet graduated when we met.

At that time, I felt that his biggest personality trait was double-sided - he was totally a comical netizen in the social network, but a shy man in reality (I just asked and sure enough, his horoscope is Gemini).

I remember when I was still on campus, I planned a programmer COS "mom love me again" selection, asked a circle of shy programmer men, all of them think it is a very stupid idea. Only he automatically matching the red face makeup self-editing, self-direction and self-performance, all done, jumped to become the first programmer netroots. This also decided that he later did not engage in his profession as a programmer, but became an Internet that marketing manager. His short career experience we have also had many times to cooperate. People call him a professional "pimp" - because it seems that everyone can recognize, and can be "hooked up" to cooperate.

I'd say there are two types of multi-professionals: resourceful and talented.

Either, like Han Xiaoxian, he knows how to cultivate his own resources; or he has a talent aura, and he can make money and climb to the top of the ladder by relying on his skills.

In addition, I also found a **** common point between them - Netroots, in the social network are super popular. Maybe netroots is simply an alias for multi-professionals. =. =
