What are the elements of the classical narrative structure?
Attitude is very important, often reflected in the perspective adopted by the film. This refers to a narrative attitude. This narrator will not appear in the film, but in fact he is a descriptive angle of the writer or author, and this is an omniscient angle from the perspective of God. In other words, the narrator knows everything in the story, from mind to body, from one side to the other.
(2) Classical narrative mode: following the basic linear progression of causal logic.
1, plot structure (plot)
The story content of the film is basically organized according to the Hollywood model structure of prologue-establishment-confrontation-solution.
I. Preface (introducing the background of the story)
Second, establish (foreshadowing the antecedents of the story)
Third, confrontation (conflict between the two sides caused by antecedents)
Fourth, solve (the result of contradictions and conflicts)
Fifth, the conclusion (the influence of the result on the protagonist's life)
2. Theme
What did the author of this story express? The theme does not need to be profound, even if it is simply comforting. Works without themes can basically turn into historical dust over time.
3. Goal
Characters and actions must have clear goals. Sometimes, in addition to the main goal, secondary goals are needed to generate the audience's motivation to watch movies, that is, how the characters solve obstacles and hinder the realization of the goal, what are the obstacles to this goal, or whether the anti-goal force is reasonable and powerful, resulting in pressure and tension? How did it end? What ups and downs have you experienced? These are the classic rules of traditional narrative.
4. Role conflict (personality conflict)
Several groups of characters conflict with each other for the same goal, and the opposition is obvious. At the same time, in order to increase popularity, there may be conflicts between goals and personalities within each group of characters.
5. Rationality: an unbreakable bond.
The motivation of the role and the conflict between roles must be reasonable and understandable by ordinary people, otherwise the credibility of the role will be seriously affected. And then affect the quality of the whole work.
6. Create surface tension (create dramatic tension)
Let your audience know something that the characters in the story don't know.
Make your audience feel that the characters in the story have gone astray.
7. Time limit (deadline)
If some events in the story have a time limit or a time bomb, it can give the audience a nervous mood, which can last for a long time. Twelve hours later, the meteorite will hit the earth, and more than half of the creatures on the earth will die. (Movie-Meteorite Hit the Earth) The bus must keep the speed of120mph, or the bomb on the bus will explode. Movie-speed of life and death.
8. turning point
Using the turning point can create unexpected effects, arouse the audience's expectation psychology, strengthen the plot tension, and thus continue the audience's interest in the story. Turning points most often appear before and after the story. The turning point in the front part of the script is generally used to open the story and show the choices that the protagonist is about to face. As for the turning point in the second half, it points to the protagonist to solve the crisis and end the story.
9. Theme and planting.
Motif refers to the responsive and intuitive plot factors in the film, such as the behavior, language or physical characteristics of some characters, or penetrating modeling symbols such as props and costumes, or a certain kind of action or a professional practice, or even people or things passing by at the edge or background of the picture. In classic narrative, motif often plays an important role, such as maintaining the overall sense of clarity, the artistic sense of deepening contrast formed by repeated reappearance, the exquisite sense of concise and powerful narrative formed by feature accumulation, the repeated emphasis and gradual enhancement of plot advancement and tension, suspense, humor and other special atmosphere effects.
It is an important skill for the creator to skillfully combine the plot with the logical relationship. Simply put, it is echo before and after. It is usually used to joke, hint at conspiracy and express the feelings of characters. In TV series, this way usually uses the accidental meeting of characters to express fate, retribution, fate and so on. , can effectively enhance the expressive force of the work.
