[Abstract]: with the development of communication, journalism and communication and the corresponding journalism education and communication education between the emergence of a certain degree of tension, has produced different and even opposing views: or advocate that journalism draws on communication to improve itself, or advocate the use of communication to replace journalism, or criticized the communication of the rule of journalism education. One important reason for such differences is the lack of in-depth understanding of the similarities and differences between journalism and communication. On the basis of reviewing the evolutionary trajectory of the relevant discussions, this paper analyzes in depth the heterogeneity and relevance of journalism and communication (mainly mass communication) from the aspects of research object or research field, research level or doctrinal level, academic stance or academic orientation, and research methodology. As the heterogeneity and correlation between journalism and communication are intertwined, we should examine the relationship between journalism and communication more rationally, and promote the interaction and absorption between each other, so that they can promote each other and complement each other, thus enabling journalism and communication to achieve greater development, and there is no need to create unnecessary disputes between journalism and communication, and to create unnecessary disputes between them. I. Historical Review of the Relationship between Journalism and Communication
Since the introduction of the western communication since 1978, the relationship between journalism and communication has gradually appeared in the country's academic field of vision. This is because the relationship with journalism is involved in elaborating what communication studies are. For example, as early as the mid-1980s, a researcher asserted that "communication studies emphasize theoretical research, while journalism emphasizes operational research; communication studies focuses on 'theories', while journalism focuses on 'techniques'. " [1] Clearly, such a comparison has touched on the question of the relationship between journalism and communication.
Entering the 1990s, the relationship between journalism and communication science has become a subject construction problem of concern and discussion in the academic community. 1992, Wang Zehua compared the similarities and differences between journalism and communication science in his article "Comparison of Journalism and Communication Science," and put forward that "journalism is a different level and branch of mass communication science, but communication science can not be a substitute for journalism. " [2] Since then, the relationship between journalism and communication studies, especially whether communication studies can replace journalism, has gradually become a matter of concern.
In 1996, Yuquanwei "on journalism and communication research note" wrote: in June 1995 in Chengdu to attend the fourth national symposium on communication, the author took advantage of the meeting of the gap "with the journalism department of the universities, journalism research institutes, and newspapers, radio stations, television stations, scholars and experts, on the issue of journalism and communication, an exchange of views. ." As a result, "all the scholars and experts contacted almost unanimously agreed that journalism cannot be replaced by communication studies." [3] The author's research on the relationship between journalism and communication studies and his emphasis on the fact that "communication studies cannot be used to replace journalism" obviously includes the premise that the view that "communication studies should be used to replace journalism" has already emerged in the academic community.
Searching the relevant literature, it is not difficult to find that in the mid-1990s, some scholars did put forward such a view. 1994, Ming Anxiang in the "journalism to the historical development of communication" wrote that with the rapid development of the media, "the traditional concept of journalism" and terminology with its study of the numerous and the terminology of 'journalism', compared with the numerous media objects and complex communication practices it studies, is like a dinosaur egg and its breaking out of its shell and rapidly becoming a huge dinosaur, which is extremely incompatible and unsuitable." Therefore, "the current world journalism is developing into communication science", which is a "historic trend". And "our country's journalism and communication career has definitely entered the stage of mass communication. In order to adapt to the development of the situation at home and abroad, it has become imperative for the study of journalism in China to shift in time to the study of communication, mass communication." [4] Although Ming Anxiang did not use the word "replace", the content of the article, especially the conclusion, does have the implication of "replacing journalism with communication studies". 1995, Shao Peiren, in his book Journalism and Communication, explicitly put forward that traditional journalism Shao Peiren, in his 1995 book Journalism and Communication, clearly stated that traditional journalism "is aging step by step and is about to become 'a discipline of despair'" and that "implanting new genes, injecting new blood, and introducing new methods into journalism is the only way for journalism to get a new life. "[5]. Therefore, "to replace journalism with news communication science, and then to replace news communication science with communication science is really the need of the society, the trend of the times, the inevitable of history, and does not shift by that person's will, and there is no force that can sway it or block it." [6] Later, Shao Peiren reiterated in a paper, "Replacing 'news reporting' with 'news dissemination' and journalism with news dissemination is a general trend and an imperative. " [7] Shao Peiren's statement is "to replace journalism with news dissemination", but he also says "to replace news dissemination with communication", summarizing his view as "to replace journalism with communication", which does not seem to be a problem. It does not seem to be a problem to summarize his view as "replacing journalism with communication". In contrast to Shao Peiren's subjective conception, Qiu Jiejie decided that communication studies had begun to replace journalism. He said in a seminar: "The development of the discipline means negation. Communication science has partially replaced journalism through its own research." [8]
