On Japan's "Feather Weaving"
If you don't know much about this, you can refer to the costumes of great generals in Japanese river dramas, especially cultural figures like Imagawa Yoshimoto and Ai Long Ouchi. Most of their armor should be covered with a layer of feather weaving to show their dignity.
Because of its beauty and convenience, feather weaving became more popular in the Edo period, but it was not limited to sleeveless.
Warriors almost wear them when they go hunting, and even become women disguised as men when they go out. Due to reasons such as being too popular, men are superior to women, etc., in the middle of Edo (about 1750' s), the shogunate issued a special regulation prohibiting women from wearing feather weaving, which was officially lifted in Meiji era.
