Explanation of nouns in local novels
Local novel refers to a novel with strong local flavor and local color, which describes rural life in hometown through recollection and reorganization. You can also refer to the novels written by a group of writers who lived in Beijing and Shanghai in the early and mid-1920s, taking their familiar hometown customs as the theme, aiming at revealing the ignorance and backwardness of rural life under the patriarchal clan system and expressing homesickness.
Extended data:
It was Lu Xun who first wrote the local novel, which proved the artistic charm of the local novel. However, neither Lu Xun nor those young writers who were later called local writers clearly used the concepts of "local literature" or "local novels" in the early and mid-1920s, let alone flaunted them.
It is in Lu Xun 1928 "Introduction to Two Stories in China's New Literature Series" that these writers first called their novels recalling their hometown and expressing homesickness "local literature". Later, people used this concept to refer to the creation of these writers in this period.
