Folk Culture of Danyang
Danyang has a long history and is one of the birthplaces of Wu culture.
The Danyang dialect belongs to the Wu language - Taihu Lake piece - Biling small piece. Danyang is located at the border of the Wu language, and most of the area belongs to the Wu language - Taihu Lake - Biling sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub-sub. The Danyang dialect retains the turbid and incoming tones, preserves more ancient Chinese words and phrases, has six tones, and possesses most of the characteristics of the contemporary Wu language. Danyang people use rice as their main food, usually two porridges and one rice, i.e. morning and evening porridges, and lunch. Rice is mainly Japonica, Indica and glutinous rice. Morning porridge is generally barley porridge with rice flour rice balls, or rice porridge, there are also people to eat soaked rice; evening porridge is mostly salty porridge, soup noodles; midday meal are rice.
