Dongpo meat, also known as rolled noodles, is a traditional dish of Han nationality in Jiangnan area, belonging to Zhejiang cuisine and Sichuan cuisine, with pork as the main ingredient. From February 2065438 to February 2005, at the Sixth Congress of Hubei Cuisine Hotel Industry Association, Huangzhou Dongpo Meat was also recognized as a famous dish in Hubei and China. Dongpo pork, after it was spread to Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, caused a sensation in the local area and became famous all over the world. It was rated as one of the 36 famous dishes in Hangzhou.
The origin of Dongpo meat
Dongpo pork is said to have been created by Su Shi, a poet in the Northern Song Dynasty, and its earliest birthplace is Meishan, Sichuan. In the fourth year of Yuan You, Song Zhezong, Su Shi was appointed as the governor of Hangzhou, which coincided with the flooding of Taihu Lake and the flooding of crops. Su Shi took the initiative to organize migrant workers to dredge the West Lake, build dikes and bridges, and helped the people in western Zhejiang through the most difficult time.
The people of Hangzhou thanked Su Shi for his kindness. During the Chinese New Year, they carried pigs and wine to pay New Year greetings to him. Su Shi refused to accept gifts from ordinary people, so he instructed his family to cut the meat into cubes, burn it red and crisp, and give it to migrant workers who participated in dredging the West Lake. After eating it, everyone was amazed. He admired Su Dongpo's integrity and cared about the people's morality like a child, so he affectionately called the meat he sent Dongpo meat, which has been passed down to this day.
