The Gaoshan people are one of China's ethnic minorities, and most of their traditional festivals have a strong religious flavor, basically in the form of sacrificial ceremonies. Important festivals include the Sowing Festival, the Peace Festival, the "Ali" Ancestor Festival, the Bountiful Years Festival, the Jukan Festival, the Great Hunt Festival, and the Flying Fish Festival.
Of these, the Bunsen Festival is the grandest and largest traditional festival of the Takayama people. On the day of the festival, the tribesmen bring their own tankards of wine to the site, and gather around the bonfire to dance, eat, and drink to celebrate the harvest of the year's labor. In addition, every festival, the tribesmen will kill pigs and oxen, and set up banquets with wine. The most representative foods for the feast are cakes and patties made of various kinds of glutinous rice. During the festival, in addition to singing and dancing gatherings, sports competitions, cultural exhibitions and amusement activities are also added.
