Profile of Yang Hua

Born in 1967, a native of Zhongxiang, Hubei Province, Yang Hua was admitted to the Department of History of Fudan University in 1983 and graduated in 1994, where he received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees in history, and has been teaching at Wuhan University since 1994, where he was promoted to Associate Professor in 1997, to Professor in 2003, and to Doctoral Supervisor in 2004. He is currently a professor at the School of History, the Center for Traditional Chinese Culture (a key research base for humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of Education), and the Center for Jane Palmer Studies (a key research base for humanities and social sciences of Hubei Province) of Wuhan University, where he also serves as the vice dean of the School of History, the deputy director of the Center for Traditional Chinese Culture, and a member of the 11th Committee of the Hubei Provincial Youth Federation. From 1999 to 2000, he was a visiting researcher at the Center for East Asian Studies at the University of Illinois, USA.

Mainly engaged in the history of the pre-Qin and Han Dynasties, Chinese cultural history, especially the ancient Chinese ritual system. In recent years, he has devoted himself to the study of ancient Chinese rituals by utilizing unearthed materials on simplicity and silk, and interpreting the simplicity and silk documents with the ritual books of the past generations. He has undertaken a number of national research projects such as "Research on Unearthed Simplified Silk and Ancient Chinese Rites" and "Research on Ancient Chinese Funeral and Sacrifice Rites", and has participated in many academic conferences abroad. He has published monographs such as "Pre-Qin Ritual and Music Culture", "Research on Newly-Explored Simplified Palm and Ritual System", "Trajectory of Chinese Cultural Development" (co-author), "History of Chinese Culture" (co-author), etc. He has also published more than 40 academic papers in "Chinese Historical Studies", "World Religion Studies", "History of Chinese Philosophy", "Guangming Daily", etc. He is also a member of "The Chinese Academy of Sciences", "The Chinese Academy of Sciences", "The Chinese Academy of Sciences" and "The Chinese Academy of Sciences".
