Characteristics of Okinawan people

Okinawans look similar to native Japanese, but their lifestyle and cultural practices are similar to those of China, and that depends on historical reasons. Okinawa was originally the Ryukyu Islands, and the local people have been influenced by the Han culture for hundreds of years, and basically rely on the Han culture more than anything else. The traditional dress is Han Chinese clothing, and early official books were written in Han Chinese characters. Japan occupied the Ryukyus by force, then changed the name of the prefecture to Okinawa Prefecture. Many Okinawans do not belong to the Yamato nation, they do not celebrate some of the traditional festivals of the Japanese Yamato nation, and they do not wear kimonos.
