Background of Embroidered Lotus Bag
"Embroidered Lotus Bags" is a folk song from Northeast China popular in Mudanjiang area of Heilongjiang province. The song is a self-referential way to express the heroine's longing for her husband through a series of activities of embroidering lotus bags. In addition, there are folk songs with the same name in Shandong, Yunnan, Shanxi, etc. In 1958, Mr. Cheng Xifa, a famous veteran artist in Jilin Province (one of the ten great masters of Er Ren Su), asked this song to be taught to Gao Ru, who added his own understanding to the folk song and polished it continuously. In 1984, Gao Ru was asked by the Jilin Art Research Institute to sing the traditional Er Ren Su and the Northeastern folk songs, which was recorded, and the score was written down by the famous composer, Na Bingchen.
