Zhong Nanshan (October 1936-), Xiamen, Fujian, graduated from Peking University, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a renowned respiratory disease expert,[1][2][3] and is currently the National Clinical Medical Research Center for Respiratory Diseases, and the head of the high-level expert group of the National Health Commission. [4] He has long been engaged in medical treatment, teaching, and scientific research in respiratory medicine, focusing on asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, interstitial pneumonia, and other difficult respiratory diseases. He presided over the prevention and treatment of SARS in Guangdong Province during the ravages of SARS in 2003, and was a leading figure in the fight against SARS in China.

In 1953, he attended Guangdong Experimental High School.
In 1960, he graduated from Beijing Medical College (now Peking University School of Medicine) and stayed there to teach.
From July 1960 to August 1971, she served as a teaching assistant in the Radiology Department of Beijing Medical College (now Peking University School of Medicine).
From September 1971 to April 1974, she was a resident physician in the Department of Internal Medicine of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical College.
From April 1974 to August 1978, she was an attending physician in the Department of Internal Medicine of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical College.
September 1978 to December 1982, she served as deputy chief physician and lecturer of the Department of Internal Medicine of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical College.
From October 1979, he served as deputy director and director of Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Diseases.
From 1979 to 1981, he went to the University of Edinburgh Medical School and the Department of Respiratory Diseases of the University of London for further study. [

On March 5, 2012, Zhong Nanshan suggested to start PM2.5 monitoring in the country, and prevention and control can be carried out first in key areas, he suggested that the optimization of the industrial structure of automobile exhaust management and optimization of the energy structure from the national level to make hard constraints. In 2014, he was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Science by the Chinese University of Hong Kong. [14]
On March 27, 2016, Zhong Nanshan participated in China's first influenza summit and delivered a speech. [15]

Major Achievements
Zhong Nanshan has long been engaged in medical treatment, teaching and scientific research in respiratory medicine. He focuses on asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, respiratory failure and standardized diagnosis and treatment of common respiratory diseases, difficult and rare diseases, and respiratory critical care and treatment. And for the first time, he confirmed the existence of occult asthma. The success rate of diagnosis of chronic unexplained cough in the institute under his leadership reached 85%, and the success rate of rescue in intensive care unit reached 91%. [6]
Taking on projects & Achievement awards
As of September 2010, Zhong Nanshan has achieved more than 20 scientific research achievements at the national, provincial and municipal levels in China, and was awarded the Second Prize of the National Scientific and Technological Advancement of China in 2005, the Special Prize of the Guangdong Provincial Scientific and Technological Advancement of the Year in 2004, the First Prize of the Provincial Scientific and Technological Advancement, and the Individual Special Prize of the Scientific and Technological Advancement of Guangdong Province and Guangzhou Municipality. In 2003, he was honored with the He Liang He Li Science and Technology Award. [6]
In 1980, the project of "GD Miniature Maximum Expiratory Flow Rate Meter" was awarded the Third Prize of Guangdong Provincial Scientific and Technological Progress.
In 1982, the project of "Research on Transgenic Factors" was awarded the First Prize of Scientific and Technological Achievements of Guangzhou Municipality;
In 1994, the project of "Asthma and Airway Hyperresponsiveness" was awarded the Third Prize of Major Scientific and Technological Achievements of the Ministry of Health of China.
In 2008, the project of "Application of siRNA strategy to develop animal experiments of effective drugs for the prevention and treatment of SARS disease" was awarded the Second Prize of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province.
In 2008, the project of "Diagnostic Procedures for the Etiology of Chronic Cough, Pathogenesis and Its Treatment Research" was awarded the First Prize of Scientific and Technological Progress of Guangzhou Municipality, and the project of "Inactivated Vaccine of SARS Coronavirus and Related Research" was awarded the Second Prize of Scientific and Technological Progress of Guangzhou Municipality.
In 2009, the project of "Creating a Prevention and Treatment Integrated Family Medicine Talent Training Model to Promote the Sustainable Development of Community Health Services" was awarded the Second Prize of China's National Teaching Achievements. [16]
Papers and Publications
As of September 2010, Zhong Nanshan has published more than 150 papers in Chinese domestic and international medical journals, of which the papers published abroad have been cited 81 times by SCI, and edited the English-Chinese-Japanese Illustrated Medical Dictionary Asthma Advances in Modern Respiratory Diseases Interpretation of Acute Contagious Atypical Pneumonia Preventive and Countermeasures Contagious Atypical Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment of Pneumonia".
Talent Cultivation
As of July 2003, Zhong Nanshan has trained ten doctoral and master's degree students, including Professor Chen Rongchang of the Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Diseases and Dr. Li Li of the Yulin First Hospital of Yan'an University Hospital. [17][18] Zhong Nanshan has been teaching for decades, and is a renowned teacher with a passion for innovation. 2010, in order to promote the reform and innovation of medical education, and to cultivate more top-notch talents, Zhong Nanshan was personally involved in the selection and interviews, and established the "Nanshan Class" by selecting 32 out of the 416 freshmen of the class of 2010 who majored in clinical medicine at Guangzhou Medical College, and personally served as the class president. Nanshan Zhong personally participated in the selection and interview, from the Guangzhou Medical College 2010 class of 416 freshmen majoring in clinical medicine, selected 32 to establish the "Nanshan class", and personally served as class director.
