What are the traditional festivals of Nu people?

Nu nationality is one of the ethnic minorities with a small population in China. Traditional festivals include Spring Festival, Fairy Festival, Mountain Forest Festival, New Rice Festival, and sacrifice to Grain Rain God.

During the Spring Festival, angry words are called "Jigamu". Before the festival, every household should clean the courtyard and remove the ashes from the fire pit. On New Year's Eve, the old people should be invited to dinner. In the early morning of the first day, young men should first go to the well to draw auspicious water and pay a New Year call to their elders.

Fairy Festival, also known as Flower Festival or Tianmu Festival, lasts 10 and 15 every year in Tibetan calendar. Since 5: 00 in the morning, the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa has welcomed thousands of Tibetan believers from all over the world. On the festival day, people put on costumes, bring sacrifices and picnics, and go to caves with flowers in their hands.

Mountain Forest Festival is usually held in June and July, presided over by wizards, killing black sheep for sacrifice and praying to God to protect the forest from all kinds of pests and fires.

The New Rice Festival is held every year when the rice is ripe. Every family will kill a chicken and cook a new kind of rice. First, dogs will eat chicken and rice, and then the whole family will eat new rice.

Sacrifice to the valley god, and call it "you are" in anger. The time is December 29th of the lunar calendar every year. Sacrifice activities are held to pray for the blessing of the Valley God. The god of offering sacrifices to the valley forbids women and children to participate. At that time, the men in the village carried sacrifices to the pre-selected venue, and the wizard who presided over the ceremony asked people to cut down a golden bamboo, a reed and a green maple oak and put them into the venue for sacrifice, praying for a bumper harvest in the coming year.
