Brief Introduction of Cai Kunshan's Plough Map
During Zheng De's period in Ming Dynasty, Cai Kunshan happened to meet Zheng De, a visiting emperor traveling incognito, and was rewarded with a meal. The play depicts a group of vivid creatures and plays an intriguing comedy through the performance of scenes such as dinner, attending court, distributing wealth, ploughing the fields, sending porridge and giving gifts.
Interpreted the story that "being an official is not asking for honor or disgrace, but observing the sufferings of the people". The play is adapted from the traditional Flower Drum Opera Cai Kunshan Tilling the Field. Through such events as meeting for dinner, going to court, sharing wealth, ploughing, sending porridge and giving rewards, Hunan farmers are fearless, affectionate, responsible and thoughtful. Men are humorous; Women are passionate and aggressive. It fully shows the lifestyle and humanistic characteristics nourished by Huxiang culture.
