Profile of the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts
On November 1, 1956, the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts was founded in Beijing, the capital of China, as the only higher education institution of arts and crafts in China. Its establishment was a landmark event in the history of the development of higher education in arts and crafts in China.
When the college was founded, it concentrated on the domestic famous arts and crafts designers and arts and crafts educators, and after 40 years of construction and continuous enrichment, a team of nearly 250 teachers with rich teaching experience and high academic level has been formed. They are the pioneers who devote themselves to arts and crafts education and are the backbone of teaching in the college.
At present, the college has 8 departments and 13 majors, including Ceramic Design, Dyeing and Weaving Design, Furnishing Design, Industrial Design, Decorative Arts, Clothing Design, Environmental Arts, and History of Arts and Crafts. Since its foundation, the college has trained more than 1,800 undergraduates and 50 postgraduates for the country in twenty sessions; it has accepted more than 40 foreign students. In recent years, it has also organized various kinds of professional refresher courses and training courses, which have enabled more than a thousand in-service professional designers, teaching and scientific researchers to further their studies and improve themselves. A teaching structure that is developing towards the cluster type, including multidisciplinary, multidisciplinary and comprehensive, is being perfected day by day.
The college implements arts and crafts design education aiming at beautifying people's lives, and at the same time pays attention to the study of excellent national, folk arts and crafts traditions as well as the introduction and research of various advanced design ideas from abroad. It is the mission of the college to cultivate students into talents who love the socialist motherland, love their professions, have healthy aesthetic interest and independent design ability, and develop morally, intellectually, physically and aesthetically in an all-round way. Over the years, combining teaching and research, the college has undertaken and participated in many important social tasks, such as the interior and exterior design of national public **** buildings, hotels, museums, memorial halls and other buildings, as well as the design of decorative paintings, sculptures, processions, exhibitions, means of transportation, clothing, ceramic ware, textiles, merchandise decoration, book binding. These tasks have contributed to the improvement of the quality of teaching as well as having a good impact on the cultural and economic construction of the country.
