Why did knights become godlike in medieval Europe?
The knightly class in the Middle Ages was the patron saint of the people, a revolt and self-correction of the people against a chaotic and unorganized society. They were both warriors and weapons for the rulers and protectors of the common people.
The Middle Ages, also known as the "Dark Ages", was a time of political chaos in Europe, similar to our Warring States period or the Wei, Jin, and North-South Dynasties, with a lack of unity and power, and countries fighting each other, plunging people into prolonged wars, with the famous "Crusades" occurring during this period. The famous "Crusades" took place during this period. Coupled with the frequent occurrence of epidemics such as the Black Death, the people lived in deep suffering.
And the image of knights, which still appears in various movie and TV dramas or literary entertainment works, is the bright star of that chaotic and painful era. They rode high horses, armor and swords, conquering the battlefield, protecting the weak and punishing the evil.
Knights began as trained cavalrymen, loyal to the king or nobles, who fought alongside their lords to protect their homes. Later this class became the lowest of the nobles. In the constant wars, they gained wealth and status as heroes who fought in blood to liberate the Holy Land. The formation of the Crusaders was a symbol of the golden age of chivalric culture; they were monks who fought to protect God and liberate the Holy Land. They were both warriors and weapons for the rulers and protectors of the common people.
Every boy in that era dreamed of becoming a knight. Just as every child addicted to martial arts novels wished to be a master with supreme kung fu.?
Knights, like our chivalrous warriors and Japanese samurai, are images derived from people's dissatisfaction with the status quo. They represent the people's desire and longing for justice and fairness in a chaotic world. They had a high status in medieval Europe and were God's guards on earth.
