What happened to the Inuit residence?
In spring, the roof of the igloo begins to melt. Inuit people will move to tent houses in air-raid shelters-deep holes dug in sand and mud on the beach, with passages on one side and sleeping platforms on the other. The wall is made of mud and stone, a driftwood is placed on the roof as a beam, and an animal skin is covered on the beam of the roof, which is held down by stones. The floor is covered with grass and moss.
In summer, many formal tent houses are built in the style of air raid shelters. The holes in the middle and around are supported by beams. The cover on the top of the tent is traditionally made of reindeer skin, and a circle of stones will be pressed on the cover.
Nowadays, although Inuit no longer live in igloos or tents, houses designed by modern Inuit can still withstand bad weather. Modern buildings in the Arctic are also very compact, because they imitate western-style houses.
