The Historical Evolution of Tianjin University

Tianjin University, formerly known as Beiyang University, was founded on1June 2, 895, and is the first modern university in China.

1895 10.02 Emperor Guangxu approved the establishment of Tianjin Beiyang Western School, with Sheng Xuanhuai as the first inspector. The school is located in the former site of Dayingmen Bowen College on the Yun Bei River in Tianjin.

1896, Beiyang Western School was officially renamed as Beiyang University Hall, which is the first institution of higher learning named after "University Hall" in China.

1899, the first student of Tianjin Beiyang University Hall graduated. 1900 1 month, the school issued the first university diploma in the history of China.

Eight-Nation Alliance invaded Tianjin on 1900. The school building was occupied by enemy soldiers, equipment and documents were destroyed, and the school was forced to close.

1April, 903, the school moved to Tianjin Xigu Arsenal (now Hongqiao Campus East Campus of Hebei University of Technology) and officially resumed classes.

19 12 1 Beiyang university hall was renamed as Beiyang university, directly under the Ministry of Education, and 19 13 was renamed as National Beiyang University.

1920, the Ministry of Education of the National Government adjusted the departments of Beiyang University and Peking University, changed Beiyang University into an engineering major, merged the law department into Peking University, and merged the engineering department of Peking University into Beiyang University. Since then, Beiyang University has entered the era of specialized engineering.

1929, Beiyang University was changed to National Beiyang Institute of Technology.

1On July 7, 937, the Japanese aggressor troops launched a full-scale war of aggression against China. On July 30th, Tianjin fell. Beiyang Institute of Technology was forced to move westward to form Xi Temporary University.

1938, Xi Temporary University moved to Hanzhong, renamed Northwest United University, and later established Northwest Institute of Technology.

1942, the National Institute of Engineering of Yingshi University became the National Beiyang Institute of Technology independently.

1944, Beijing Branch of Beiyang Institute of Technology was established.

1946 In May, Beiyang University was rebuilt in Xigu, Tianjin.

195 1 year, Beiyang University merged with Hebei Institute of Technology and was named Tianjin University.

65438-0959, Tianjin University was designated as the first batch of 16 key universities in China.

65438-0986 Tianjin University pioneered the direction of "comprehensive, research-oriented and open" in China.

1997, Tianjin university is listed as the national "2 1 1 project" key construction institution.

From June 5438 to February 2000, Tianjin University was included in the first phase of the National "985 Project".

The motto of Tianjin University is "seeking truth from facts", which was advocated by Zhao Tianlin, the former president and famous jurist of Beiyang University in the early days of its establishment.
