The division, significance and territorial meaning of national boundaries

Once the national boundaries are determined by some means, such as treaties (except unequal treaties) or documents organized by the contracting States, or by coastal countries according to their own legislation, neighboring countries cannot unilaterally change them, let alone allow either party to invade the other. According to the nature of demarcation, national boundaries can be divided into two types: man-made such as boundary markers, boundary walls and canals, and natural such as mountains, rivers and lakes. According to the signs of demarcation basis, national boundaries are divided into: ① geographical boundaries. Generally, physical geographical entities are used as demarcation standards; (2) astronomical boundaries. The boundary is consistent with the longitude and latitude lines of the map; (3) Geometric boundary. It refers to drawing a straight line from one fixed point to another on the boundary line as the boundary; (4) the geographical boundaries of human beings. For example, ethnic boundaries are determined according to ethnic distribution, religious boundaries are determined according to the religious belief areas of residents, and power boundaries are determined according to war and strength. The meaning of national boundaries is the boundary where a country exercises sovereignty, and it is the geographical boundary of its territorial scope. It is the basis for delineating a country's territory, territorial sea and airspace, determining the geographical space where a country exists and limiting the scope of its territorial sovereignty. It is relatively stable, limited and inviolable. Territory definition: refers to all the territory under the jurisdiction of a sovereign country, which belongs to the spatial category, including inland waters such as land, rivers and lakes and their underlying strata, as well as seaports, inland bays, airspace and territorial waters connected with land.
