Is the New National Debate the same as the World Chinese Debate?

New National Debate is not the same as World Chinese Debate

"New National Debate" is one of the highest level debate invitational tournaments in World Chinese at present. It has the most professional tournament system, the strongest judging lineup, and the participation of the world's top college debate teams. The Chinese Debate Buddies Tournament, referred to as the Chinese Debate Buddies Tournament or Buddies Tournament, is an international debate tournament hosted by the Sun Yat-sen University Debate Team, characterized by inviting retired debaters from various debate teams to participate in the tournament, with a view to breaking down the limitation of being a current student and showcasing the highest level of Chinese debate. So the New National Debate and the Chinese Debate Old Friends Tournament are not one and the same.

The full name of the New National Debate is "International Chinese Debate Invitational Tournament", which is now a higher level debate invitational tournament in the world. Short for "International Tertiary Debate Association", the "National Debate" was first established in 1993 and has grown over the years to become a higher stage in the Chinese debate arena.

However, due to the fact that the audience for this serious activity is not very wide, and due to the emergence of TV variety shows, CCTV announced in 2013 that it would indefinitely stop organizing the "International Collegiate Debate Competition", and from then on, the higher level of the World Collegiate Chinese Debate Championships has been left vacant.

In general, the International Collegiate Debate enjoys high authority, so it is called the "National Debate", and when the National Debate was discontinued, the International Chinese Debate Invitational became another authority, so it is called the "New National Debate".

In 2014, it innovatively put forward the concept of "Debate Circle" and invited 24 teams from 16 debate circles to participate.
