Tourist Characteristics of Xiamei Ancient Dwellings

Brick carvings, stone carvings, wood carvings and colorful paintings on the walls are a wonderful feature of the ancient dwellings in Xiamei. The doorways of the dwellings are invariably decorated with exquisite brick carvings, reflecting luxury and wealth. Brick carvings are mainly in relief, and there are also openwork carvings. The content is mostly taken from historical figures, myths and legends, folklore and flowers. Patterns pay attention to fine carving, realistic character modeling, environment depicted apt and natural, deep moral rhyme flexible, showing a rich cultural flavor, expressing the beautiful wishes of the ancient working people. In the brick carving pattern, such as carving a scholarly family, the room of the qin, chess, calligraphy and painting, the sky flew five bats, called "five blessings", the bat head potential downward, and the reverse posting of the word "blessed" with the same meaning. The hot air bubbling from the pot and the bats meet to symbolize "good fortune"; the bottle is inserted with Ruyi to symbolize "all the best, good luck and peace", and the bottle is inserted with a sword, called "Pin (bottle) to rise one level"; a man stands on one foot and a bat on the other, which is called "five blessings". ; a person with one foot standing on the head of a monster is "dominant", and other flowers and auspicious clouds and other patterns, symbolizing the "blossoming of wealth", "Purple East" and so on, is not introduced.

Stone carvings are mainly used in the foundation stone, when the door, stone drums, flower racks, pool railings, well railings, water tanks and other things, both practical goods, but also decorative, not lost for both appreciation and use of the crafts. The wood carvings of the ancient houses in Xiamei are also splendid, with beams, ceiling, tables, chairs, railings, window panes, column bases, etc., especially the window panes are the most important, and the windows are mainly in the form of translucent flowers, and they are the latticework windows with four, six or eight panes. The window lattice is four, six or eight panes in a lattice. The window lattice has a narrative lattice, parallel lattice and so on, maximizing the artistry. Wood carving patterns are mostly based on popular animals and plants, characters, auspicious clouds as the theme, showing the traditional virtues of the ancient Han Chinese working people in Fujian region, such as industriousness, goodness, loyalty and filial piety.

In the Xiamei residential area, there are still a dozen ancient plaques, the content of which can be broadly categorized into halls and lodgings, birthday plaques and honoring plaques, craftsmanship on the yin carving, yang carving, and side carving are available. These plaques have rich connotation and exquisite calligraphy, which not only record the thick cultural history of Xiamei Village, but also are treasures of calligraphy art. Among them, the "Hall of Governance" written by Wang Jie, a military minister in the Qing Dynasty, is a treasure.

The entrance fee for the attraction of Xiamei Ancient Residence is 46 yuan per person, and the tour lasts half a day.
