Bulgaria has been producing rose oil for more than 300 years. In order to preserve the tradition of producing rose oil, Bulgaria has designated the first Sunday of June as the "Rose Festival" since the late 1960s. During the rose harvest season, this unique "Rose Festival" will be held in Kazanlek, located at the southern foot of the Balkan Mountains. The biggest event is the celebration in Kazanlek.

Bulgaria is rich in roses, and has been producing and refining rose oil since17th century. It is one of the main producers of rose oil in the world, and its products are exported to France, the United States and other countries as high-grade flavors. Rose oil extracted from roses is called "liquid gold" and is one of Bulgaria's traditional export products.
