What does research and development mean?

Research: refers to the original planned work to acquire new scientific or technical knowledge and understand them.

Development: refers to the application of research results or other knowledge to planning or design before commercial production or use to produce new or substantially improved materials, devices, products, etc.

Scientific research usually uses research and development to express the progress of scientific research.

Research should be carried out before research and development, and only after scientific research can we enter the development stage and manufacture a certain product.

For example, the design, construction and test of prototypes and models before production or use, and the design, construction and operation of trial production facilities without commercial production scale are all development activities.
